and see in York. You may need a day or two to explore….

Either a 20 min bus ride into the centre on the No 30 bus

or a short 15 min drive south on the A19 brings you to Rawcliffe Bar

park and ride where you can easily ride into the centre of York

Helmsley is a picturesque market town on the banks of the River Rye and

has a glorious setting, sheltered beneath the remains of Helmsley Castle.

There are fine independent shops, art galleries, boutiques and cafes,

with Friday being market day. Whether walking, cycling, shopping or pottering,

Helmsley has everything you need for a delightful day out.

Why not stop at the breathtaking, 12th century Byland Abbey en route

and enjoy a bite to eat at nearby Byland Abbey Inn.

A 40 minute drive brings you to the thriving town of Harrogate.

You may also take the train from Poppleton Station (15 minute drive) to

Harrogate which takes 38 minutes, with trains running every 30 minutes.

 

Back in the town centre Harrogates’ heritage as a fashionable spa town continues

with the Royal Pump Room Museum and Turkish Baths and Health Spa.

The Montpellier Quarter with independent shops.

Harrogate boasts some impressive public gardens too,

Valley Gardens, Japanese Gardens and Cresent Gardens.

Harrogate also boasts some fine restaurants including Betty’s Tea Rooms,

where Betty’s began over 100 years ago.

A 25 minute drive away and open April to September.

With over 50 acres of spectacular lavender gardens, a tea room,

gift shop and plant nursery. All set within the Howardian Hills,

an area of outstanding natural beauty. It is said Yorkshire Lavender has the best

panoramic views in Yorkshire! Take a look at their website for events and for

A large Georgian Mansion, owned and run by the National Trust,

is only a 10 minute

drive away from your Westfield holiday cottage. Beningborough Hall,

Art Gallery and Gardens is highly recommended during your holiday.

Enjoy lunch at the cafe or restaurant before venturing out to admire

the stunning gardens.

Allowing a couple of hours to explore the hall and art gallery.

Take a stroll along Beningborough Hall River Ouse and Woodland walk.

Castle Howard has been used as a location for many films and television series,

from the iconic Brideshead Revisited in 1981, to the more recent

sensation Bridgertonand The Courtship.

Castle Howard is certainly a place like no other, the house, gardens and

Shelf Island Adventure Playground are open daily from 10am and is a 30 minute

drive away. There are a number of cafes on site, gift shop, garden centre and

a fabulous farm shop. As well as the castle and gardens which are open to view,

there are events and exhibitions throughout the year, so it’s worth checking their

website calendar to see what’s on during your stay. A full days’ visit is recommended in

order to discover all that Castle Howard offers.

For a 45 minute drive, you are rewarded with the award winning

Himalayan Gardens and Sculpture Park.

Set within 45 acres of beautiful planted woodland, an arboretum

and 3 lakes, with 85 contemporary sculptures woven throughout, all enhanced with

sounds of wildlife. There are ancient Himalayan buildings to marvel along the way.

The Pagoda and floating magnolia sculpture are spectacular works of art.

Open from April to June - Tuesday to Sundays,

July to end of October - Wednesday to Sundays,

tickets are £12 for over 16 year olds, under 16’s are free.

For a fabulous full day out, an 80 minute drive

and you are in the stunning Robin Hoods Bay. With many cycle

and walking trails within the immediate vicinity,

as well as the beautiful, golden sand beach.

Enjoy ice cream on the beach while admiring the abundant wildlife.

Perhaps visit the Coastguard Station and Fylingdales Museum.

A bite to eat at the Fish Box for outstanding Fish and Chips.

80 minute drive and is well worth visiting. Excellent coastal town,

that is so much more than a typical seaside town. Relax on the sandy beach.

Visit Whitby Abbey. There is a stunning coastal walking trail which leads you

to Robin Hoods Bay. Angling adventures for a day on the sea.

No visit is complete without eating at The Magpie Cafe or Trenchers Restaurant for the finest fish and chips.

There is plenty fun and enjoyment at Flamingo Land, Lightwater Valley Adventure Park, York Bird of Prey Centre, Jorvik Viking Centre, National Railway Museum.
